ScarWork Colchester

Scarwork massage colchester

ScarWork is a light touch massage designed to help scar tissue become as healthy as possible.

ScarWork

Our bodies are held together by connective tissue called fascia which acts as a 3d web keeping us upright and holding everything in place. If there is a restriction caused by a scar this can have a cascading effect through the fascia to the rest of the body.

The effects of scar tissue can be wide-ranging from tightness around the scar, to adhesions in the tissues connected to the scar. Scars can feel numb, itchy, sensitive; cause restrictions in mobility; and contribute to pain patterns. Tissue can be scarred from surgery, burns, radiotherapy treatment, injury and trauma.

Treatment can help with fibrosis, adhesions and restoring mobility. ScarWork can also help the appearance of a scar. Stimulation to the tissues is likely to improve the blood flow and lymphatic drainage - essential for cell regeneration. Scar tissue continues to change for up to 2 years so treatment on immature scars can be really beneficial although scar tissue of any age can be worked on.

After a treatment, clients often say that their scars feel softer, they are in less pain and their movement has improved.

I have been a massage therapist since 2006 and qualified as a Pilates instructor in 2017. The human body and the reasons why we can end up in pain fascinate me. Trauma, illness, postural patterns, stress and anxiety can all result in acute and chronic pain. Over the years I have completed extensive training - learning different techniques for helping people get out of pain and become more mobile.
