Benefits of Pilates

Pilates was invented nearly 100 years ago in Germany by Joseph Pilates. He developed 34 strength, mobility and stretching exercises designed to get the inner core muscles, which provide stability, to work. Pilates was created to improve general health - physically and mentally - as Joseph saw that the two were interrelated. If you train the mind to focus on what you want to achieve the body will follow.

I am a fully qualified APPI instructor. The APPI was founded by physiotherapists Glenn and Elisa Withers. They realised that a number of the original exercises were only suitable for very strong, flexible and fit people. When developing their brand of Pilates it was important to them to adapt it for a wide range of abilities, postural types, ages and personal aims. They have created movements which are safer, achievable and more in line with the way our bodies are designed to function. The exercises have been broken down into smaller parts - once each part is mastered the parts are layered together to create the whole movement.

Alice Webster

I have been a massage therapist since 2006 and qualified as a Pilates instructor in 2017. The human body and the reasons why we can end up in pain fascinate me. Trauma, illness, postural patterns, stress and anxiety can all result in acute and chronic pain. Over the years I have completed extensive training - learning different techniques for helping people get out of pain and become more mobile.
